Indiana Audubon opposes the federal action rescinding the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Endangerment Finding for greenhouse gases. That finding has been the legal foundation for federal rules that reduce emissions. The science linking greenhouse gases to climate change has not changed, but removing this legal pathway weakens the nation’s ability to curb the emissions that harm birds and the places they need.

Climate change is already altering migration timing, food availability, water levels, and the composition of forests and wetlands across Indiana. Weakening federal authority to regulate emissions increases risk to those habitats and the species we steward, and shifts a heavier burden onto states and local partners to fill the gap.

We urge leaders at every level to pursue science-based policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to invest in nature-based solutions that protect birds and landscapes. Indiana Audubon stands ready to coordinate with partners, provide science-based materials for decision makers, and engage our members and the public.
