This male White-breasted Nuthatch saw his reflection in my window and began giving a behavioral response. He was positioned just six to eight inches from my window. The displays he exhibited are agonistic behaviors—performed towards a perceived competing male—within his feeding, and potentially breeding, territory. Note the tail spreading, wing drooping, swaying back and forth, bill and head positioning, and body turns.
