Indiana Audubon invites bird enthusiasts to join its annual winter eagle-watching field trips to observe Bald Eagles congregating on frozen bodies of water. This unique opportunity allows participants to experience the eagles’ fascinating social dynamics, learn about their behavior, and capture stunning photographs. Sharing the experience with fellow eagle enthusiasts adds to the excitement, making these trips an ideal outing for nature lovers and photographers.

As the iconic Bald Eagle soars toward permanent status as America’s official national bird, its remarkable recovery story inspires awe. Once on the brink of extinction, conservation efforts led to its triumphant delisting from the Endangered Species List in 2007. In Indiana, where Bald Eagles nested until the 1890s and vanished, reintroduction programs have sparked a stunning resurgence. Today, over 350 nesting territories thrive along Hoosier rivers and lakes.

Learn about and appreciate these iconic birds in their wintering grounds with our guides, April Raver and Wesley Homoya. Tickets are $5 for Indiana Audubon members and $10 for non-members, available through Eventbrite. Each trip is limited to 20 participants and fills up quickly.

Each field trip will result in a distinct experience, as birding’s unpredictability offers unique bird sightings daily. Sign up for one or multiple trips to capitalize on varying birding opportunities:
