Indiana Audubon will host a hands-on Screech-Owl Box Building Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 2-4 p.m. CT, at the Indiana Dunes State Park Nature Center Auditorium, located at 1600 North 25 E. in Chesterton.
The event begins with a short introductory program about screech-owls, led by Indiana Audubon member Savannah Bennett. Attendees will also meet a live Eastern Screech-Owl from Humane Indiana Wildlife and engage in interactive activities, including owl pellet dissections and bird-themed fun for kids. The afternoon culminates in a guided screech-owl nest box-building session led by retired National Park Service superintendent Paul Labovitz.
All necessary supplies, including hardware, will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their own hammer and drill if desired. Advance registration is required and limited to 10 participants. Tickets cost $50 per person, which includes a screech-owl box kit, with additional kits available that day for $40. Register online at screechboxes.eventbrite.com.
Standard state park entry fees apply, ranging from $7 for residents to $12 for non-residents, or free with an annual entrance permit. The Indiana Dunes State Park Nature Center is ADA accessible, including the bird observation room and auditorium.
