On Aug. 29, 2024, Indiana Audubon recertified the Town of Chesterton as a Bird Town Indiana community, recognizing its continued efforts in habitat conservation, community engagement, and education. This marks the 11th consecutive year Chesterton has held this distinction, since its initial designation in 2013.

“Chesterton’s recertification as a Bird Town Indiana community demonstrates its ongoing commitment to integrating bird conservation into its urban planning and community engagement,” said Brad Bumgardner, Indiana Audubon’s Executive Director. “Alongside other Bird Town Indiana communities, Chesterton is helping pave the way for a more sustainable and wildlife-friendly future, where people and nature thrive together.”

Bird Town Indiana is a program of Indiana Audubon certifying communities that create bird-friendly habitats, educate the public, and engage residents, inspiring others to take action and conserve Indiana’s bird populations.
