Three new birding adventures are on the horizon for anyone eager to explore new habitats, connect with birds, and support conservation through travel. Each of these guided trips offers a different way to experience birds and biodiversity across Alaska’s rugged coastlines, Michigan’s Northwoods, and Brazil’s vibrant wetlands. A portion of each registration is donated to an organization working in the region you’ll visit. Through Indiana Audubon’s (IAS) Mumford and Keller Grants and Scholarship Program, we support groups working to protect birds and habitats in places connected to Indiana through migration and shared species.

Registration opens Friday, June 20, at 11 a.m. ET. Each trip is limited to 10 participants and tends to fill quickly, so we encourage you to register early to secure your spot. For questions, email us at [email protected].

📍 ALASKA: ANCHORAGE, ST. PAUL ISLAND & KENAI PENINSULA

Trip Itinerary & Registration | May 30 – June 9, 2026 | Starting at $5,795 for IAS members

For the first time, we’re heading to Alaska. You’ll explore boreal forests around Anchorage, search seabird cliffs on remote St. Paul Island, and cruise the glacier-carved fjords near Seward. With long daylight hours and peak breeding activity, June is prime time to spot lifers like Red-legged Kittiwake, Tufted Puffin, and Arctic Warbler. Spend three days immersed in the birdlife of St. Paul, then cap it off with a boat tour in search of marine birds and mammals. By joining the trip, you’re helping support local conservation and community stewardship on the island.

📍 MICHIGAN: GRAYLING UPLANDS

Trip Itinerary & Registration | June 12-14, 2026 | Starting at $528 for IAS members

Centered in the Jack Pine forests of north-central Michigan, this weekend trip gives you the chance to observe one of North America’s rarest songbirds, the Kirtland’s Warbler, in its managed breeding habitat. We’ll be based in Grayling and spend our time birding across uplands, wetlands, and mature forests to take in the full range of Northwoods nesting species. The pace is relaxed, with time to slow down and take in the birds and the landscape. Optional evening outings on Friday and Saturday offer a shot at hearing whip-poor-wills, woodcocks, and owls.

📍 BRAZIL: ATLANTIC RAINFORESTS & PANTANAL

Trip Itinerary & Registration | July 15-28, 2027 | Starting at $6,389 for IAS members

We’re also heading to Brazil for the first time with a 14-day birding trip through two of the country’s most biodiverse regions: the lush Atlantic Rainforest and the expansive wetlands of the Pantanal. You’ll stay at forested lodges full of bird activity, travel rivers by boat, and spend your days on trails and blinds that offer close looks at South American specialties. Highlights include Hyacinth Macaws, Agami Herons, and Red-breasted Toucans, along with chances to spot jaguars, giant otters, and owls during both daytime and night safaris. From vibrant feeders to remote marshes, this trip blends immersive birding with unforgettable wildlife. Your participation supports on-the-ground conservation efforts in Brazil.

More trips are on our calendar, and spots remain on several upcoming out-of-state and international tours. See what’s available at indianaaudubon.org/events.
