Indiana Audubon invites the public to celebrate birds and nature at the 7th annual Hummingbird Migration Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary in Connersville. This summer event highlights the Ruby-throated Hummingbird as it prepares to depart Indiana for its wintering grounds in Central America.
Visitors can enjoy both morning and afternoon banding experiences, where they will see adult and young hummingbirds up close and in hand. The sanctuary’s popular hummingbird prairie path also offers an exciting opportunity to feed wild hummingbirds amid the wildflowers.
Additional activities include hourly themed nature hikes, hands-on mini-workshops on topics ranging from beekeeping to monarch butterfly care, live birds of prey programs by Salamonie Raptor Center, and free fishing demos by Go Fishin’ with Clint. Local food trucks and over a dozen vendors will be on-site, providing plenty of ways to enjoy the day on the 735-acre nature preserve.
For more information about the event, visit hmc24.eventbrite.com or call Indiana Audubon at 765-205-1255. Adult tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Youth ages 17 and under get free admission.
