Listening to the Insect Choir
Many people are unaware of the chorus of our summer and fall insects. Their sounds are the backdrop to our warm days and nights, created mostly by katydids, crickets, grasshoppers, and cicadas.
My project this summer is to learn more about these insects and to identify the singers. It is a challenge, but so much fun. I have also been photographing them in their habitats — not easy! From the photographs, I will journal about what I observed and experienced.
Listen during the day and especially at night. Enjoy the comforting songs of katydids, crickets, and cicadas. Winter will arrive soon, and nature will grow much quieter.
