The Indiana Audubon Society is hosting its annual spring birding gathering at its Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary, outside Connersville, on May 4. The event includes a multitude of speakers, field hikes, as well as bird watching field trips to nearby Brookville Reservoir.
The Saturday evening keynote speaker will include Tom Swinford, assistant director for the DNR Division of Nature Preserves. Tom will highlight the state’s nature preserves, now over 50 years old, and the great habitats they preserve all around the state, now totaling over 280 properties.
Other programs will look at special bird destinations around the state and world, including a birding Cuba presentation. Evening hikes to seek out sanctuary owls will also be offered that evening.
Early bird registration for the weekend events are $32.00 through April 14, and include lunch and dinner Saturday. Youth rates are also available. Registration can be found on the events page at www.indianaaudubon.org/events.
