Indiana Audubon Society recently updated it’s policy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This updated policy goes into effect on December 1, and applies to all staff, volunteers, participants participating in an Indiana Audubon sponsored activity or event. This policy remains fluid as we adapt and respond to the latest CDC recommendations and guidance.

Effective December 1, 2021, the IAS policy regarding Covid-19 is as follows:

  • Employees must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in accordance with any then current CDC guidelines.
  • Volunteers must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in accordance with any then current CDC guidelines or alternatively comply with safeguards (negative Covid test, masks, etc.) as appropriate based on then current CDC guidelines and as determined on a case-by-case basis by IAS.
  • Participants must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in accordance with any then current CDC guidelines or alternatively comply with safeguards (negative Covid test, masks, etc.) as appropriate based on then current CDC guidelines and as determined on a case-by-case basis by IAS.

Is this a COVID-19 vaccine mandate?
Depending on the situation. All staff have vaccine mandates, without testing opt outs. Participants and volunteers will have appropriate alternative safeguards requirements offered. You can expect negative testing results for more in-depth programs that require shared transportation or lodging, while simply mask use and social distancing for activities who’s activities already minimizes health risk to staff and participants.

Are there any exceptions?
Yes, there will be exceptions for medical reasons and religious beliefs.

What is considered fully vaccinated?
According to the CDC, individuals are considered fully vaccinated when they are at least two weeks past the 2nd dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or at least two weeks past the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Does this apply to children?
Currently, the policy applies to all children 16 years of age and older. We expect to roll out children policy updates as vaccines become available and authorized for children under 16.

How soon before an event must I present a negative COVID-19 test if not vaccinated?
72 hours.
