Camping at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary

The Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary maintains a primitive campground for members to use while visiting the property. The campground consists of a high ground, large open field, that is surrounded by forest, creek valleys, and the entrance lane. The middle of this field receives nearly full sun. A second portion of the campground is partially shaded, and a third section is heavily shaded and located on lower ground that can be very moist according to the season. There are three fixed shelters located in the campground with picnic tables under their roofs. There is a vault toilet with women’s and men’s divisions. A shower stall is provided that requires visitors to use the “hanging” water bag shower system or some other variation. Camping is free for Indiana Audubon members, and $10/person for non-members. THERE IS NO WATER OR ELECTRICITY AVAILABLE IN THE CAMPGROUND. Water can be carried from the main area hydrant to the campground. The hydrant is located at the top of the drive hill across from the #1 residence. Generators are prohibited.  Modern restrooms and water are also available at Brooks Hall.

If you haven’t camped with us before:

  • Camping (and fishing) is free for members of the Indiana Audubon Society.
  • The entrance to the campground is your first right on the Sanctuary lane, before the bridge.
  • Site selection is first come first serve, please “check in” at the kiosk at the campground entrance.
  • Quiet hours are from dawn to dusk.
  • The Society asks that you do not bring firewood with you to reduce the risk of introducing invasive species to the area.  Firewood for small fires is available on site.
  • There is no trash disposal available on site; bring it in, pack it out!
  • If you’re pulling a camper or similar, we suggest scouting the grounds first to look for wet spots.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out by email or (preferably text) at 765-203-1891. We hope you have a wonderful time camping at the Sanctuary! While camping is a privilege of IAS membership, exceptions can be arranged for groups such as scouts and other special organizations. Arrangements for such events must be organized by contacting the Operations Manager prior to the event. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
