Virtual Birding Trip: Cloudforest Hummingbirds Live
February 11 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am EST$12 – $17
In an exciting birding partnership with Lifer Nature Tours, Indiana Audubon is happy to present winter quarantine virtual birding field trips throughout the tropics. Cloud forests are unique ecosystems and the ones located in Costa Rica are renowned for their biological abundance of birds rich in bright and stunning colors and of course a high diversity of range-restricted hummingbirds. In this tour we will take you to the secrets of the misty and chilly cloudforests of Costa Rican. The venue will be a hummingbird gallery where up to eight species of hummingbirds will give you a lot of joy.
Our Lifer Nature Tour guide, Juan Diego Vargas, will highlight, LIVE, the amazing history of this world famous destination, as well as explaining the local flora as we await the magic dazzling hummingbirds. The endemic Purple-throated Mountain-Gem along with the very territorial Green-crowned Brilliant sure will be there and is very likely the bulky Violet Sabrewing will be also present… by the way, do you know why is called “sabrewing”? sure your host will explain you along with many other interesting aspects of the hummingbird natural history. Don’t forget a light jacket, as it’s sometimes chilly in the cloudforest!
This is not a presentation or pre-recorded. These are real birds live in the cloudforest. The adrenaline of the pleasant surprises while we connect with nature at the distance. Your host will set up his scope with his camera on the hummingbird feeders so the birds will be cleary visible dancing in the air and there is where the gifted interpretation will take place with interesting aspects of natural history and identification tips to truly understand each species. This is truly a first person impression of what really means to be standing in a hummingbird gallery of the cloudforest of Costa Rica.
Registration proceeds are going towards Lifer Nature Tours and the beautiful sites that host these amazing birds. Registration is below, and is $12 for Indiana Audubon members ($17 for non members). A minimum of 5 participants is required. All virtual field trips begin at 8am EST/7am CST. Total time “in the field” is approximately one hour. All pre-registered participants will be sent a Zoom invite link prior to the event. IAS is donating the majority of the workshop fee directly to Lifer Nature Tours and the guides who’s lives have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. For questions, visit Here.
