Somerville Mine Raptors and More Field Trip
February 9, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 7:00 pm ESTFree – $15
Join IAS member, Amy Kearns, for a driving tour of the regionally important Somerville Mine and nearby birding sites in search of waterfowl and raptors. We will primarily be birding from our vehicles, utilizing the county roads to survey the numerous fields and ponds in the area. Due to the distances that can be involved in surveying this area, a spotting scope is recommended. Additionally, the Zello app (a free app for smartphones) will be used to facilitate communication among vehicles while traveling. Downloading this app in advance is suggested.
We will being our field trip to time with movement of afternoon birds, and stay until after sunset for the evening showing of Short-eared Owls.
Registered participants will meet and carpool from the Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge Admin Building and Visitor Contact Station in Oakland City, IN.
Pre-registration is required as IAS trips fill fast. Please email Amy if you have any questions regarding this field trip.
