Late Fall on Lake Michigan Field Trip
November 7 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm ESTFree – $15
The Indiana Audubon Society will sponsor a field trip to the shores of Lake Michigan November 7, 2020. We will work the lakefront in search of rare gulls, loons, scoters, winter finches, or other rarities often found this time of year. Perhaps the season’s first Snowy Owl or Purple Sandpiper will be found! November is an excellent time to discover lingering migrants from earlier in the fall, as well as lakefront specialties. During winter finch years, numerous possibilities exist.
The trip will be led by IAS executive director, Brad Bumgardner, and involves carpooling from the site to site based on current conditions and reports within the Indiana Dunes area. Registered participants will meet at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center parking lot in (1215 N SR 49, Chesterton) at 8am CT/9am ET. We will conclude around noon or shortly after. All participants should be prepared for cold winter conditions on the lakeshore (winds, possible snow or rain, below freezing temperatures). For additional questions and info on the trip, contact Brad Bumgardner.
To comply with CDC recommendations, all IAS field trips this fall will have the follow restrictions:
- All IAS trip participants must pre-register in advance for upcoming field trips
- All IAS 2020 Field Trips are limited to 10 participants
- All participants are recommended to utilize facial covering and/or social distancing during the field trip
- All participants should plan on traveling separately rather than carpool during multiple location trips
All participants must read and agree to the IAS Field Trip Release to participate in IAS led events and trips. This field trip is free for IAS- Members and $15 for non-members. We hope to see you there!
