Lakefront Sparrow Search Hammond Bird Sanctuary
October 14 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am EDTFree - $10
Seek out the hard to find warblers on this special field trip to the Hammond Bird Sanctuary, in extreme NW Indiana. Each year, these migrant traps host both Nelson’s and LeConte’s Sparrows for the hopeful seeker, and we’ll be trying our skills at finding them during the peak of their migration. It is also a great time for late migrating warblers, such as Orange-crowned, Palm, and Yellow-rumped Warblers. If things are slow, we may visit the nearby Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s West Beach unit to continue our search.
The trip leader is led by Matt Beatty. The trip begins at 8:00 AM Central Time (9am Eastern) at the Hammond Bird Sanctuary Parking lot on October 14. Participants must pre-register, as trips fill up fast. The trip is free for IAS members and $10 for non-IAS members. Total time about 2.5 hours. For questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
