Goose Pond Cranes Field Trip

February 18 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm UTC-6

Free - $10

Join IAS for a sneak peak at spring during this special field trip to Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area on Saturday, February 18.  By this date in recent years, an abundance of waterfowl, cranes, and even white pelicans can be seen in the thawing wetlands and ponds that abound at this amazing property in Greene Co.  Participants will meet Goose Pond resident birding expert, Lee Sterrenburg, for a morning tour of the best units and a chance to see as many waterfowl and other specialty birds as possible. Though binoculars work well, spotting scopes are also recommended.  Prepare for a variety of weather conditions.

Expected species include Greater-white Fronted Goose, Snow Goose, Ross’s Goose, Sandhill Crane, Whooping Crane, American White Pelican, Northern Pintail, and Green-winged Teal among others.

The trip begins at 9:00 AM at the Goose Pond Visitor Center at  13540 W County RD 400 S, Linton, IN.   Participants must pre-register, as trips fill up fast.  The trip is free for IAS members and $10 for non-IAS members.  For questions, email sterren@indiana.edu.
