Costa Rica Virtual Birding Trip II: Rainforest Volcano Birding
November 21 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am EST$10 – $15
In an exciting birding partnership with Lifer Nature Tours, Indiana Audubon is happy to present two special virtual birding field trips to beautiful Costa Rica. On this morning, you can join Lifer Nature Tours guide and birding expert, Anthony, in the famous Arenal Volcano Rainforest in the foothills of northwest Costa Rica.
We’ll begin with Anthony giving us an overview of the Arenal area and he will go to action immediately with our first birds through his sharp Swarovski HD spotting scope. As we broadcast live from a busy bird feeder the clear and constant views of Scarlet-rumped, Blue-gray, Golden-hooded, Palm and Crimson-collared Tanagers are almost granted, then Honeycreepers as well, like Green and Red-legged. The immaculate Tropical Mockingbird, the noisy Gray-headed Chachalacas, giant Crested Guan and even maybe a Great Curassow. Collared Aracari and Yellow-throated Toucans are usually around and Russet-naped Wood-rail and White-throated Crake can be nice surprises in a little pond nearby. Mammals are a possibility, including Three-toed Sloth can be seen from this location. This is not a recording and not a secure and well-memorized PowerPoint presentation, this is real birding in real time live from the heart of the rainforest.
The lush rainforest around you will be stunning and if weather allows the breathtaking views of the powerful Arenal Volcano will be possible. Most of the Arenal local economies are tourism based and have been heavily impacted by the pandemic. All IAS member registration proceeds are going towards Lifer Nature Tours and the beautiful sites that host these amazing birds.
Registration is below, and is $10 for Indiana Audubon members ($15 for non members). A minimum of 5 participants is required. All virtual field trips begin at 8am EST/7am CST (7am Costa Rican time!). Total time “in the field” is approximately one hour. All pre-registered participants will be sent a Zoom invite link prior to the event. Register for one or both of our virtual birding trips.
