Breeding Birds of Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary Field Trip
June 18 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am EDT
Spring migration may be over, but the birds are busier than ever! Join IAS to discover the resident breeding birds of Mary Gray. With almost 200 of Indiana’s bird species recorded here, we’ll look for local favorites and more secretive nesters, from flycatchers to warblers to tanagers. We’ll cover a variety of habitats, increasing our chances of spotting nesting birds. Participants can expect to see Ruby-throated hummingbirds, Belted kingfisher, Pileated woodpecker, Summer and Scarlet tanagers, and if we’re luckily, perhaps a busy Barred owl or Yellow-breasted chat.
This field trip will take place at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, June 18. Registered participants will meet at 8:00 AM ET under the picnic shelter near the parking lot. The group will spend time along the service road trail, birding the prairie and wetland areas, before moving into the woods.
