Donate to Help the Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary

Make a difference, make a donation!

Your donation will help to support the Indiana Audubon Society and its activities. The sanctuary, which receives no funds from Indiana Audubon memberships, counts on its endowments and your generosity every year to preserve and maintain the land and the structures on it.

This has been a special year.  It was warm in the winter, to the benefit of Super Bowl revelers in Indiana, and hot and dry in the summer, to the distress of most growing things.  Mary Gray with its deep forests and multiple streams, endured the drought fairly well.  And just as end-of-summer rains have brought relief to aquifers and wildlife, so, too, have several generous donations in recent years restored health to the financial status of the sanctuary accounts.  The infrastructure of the sanctuary is in good stead.  We look ahead, then, to the future of Mary Gray, and we consider that one of its greatest potentials is to enrich and educate those who would visit the sanctuary.

Imagine yourself wanting to attend one the spring meetings with all of the glorious birds and wildflowers on display at the sanctuary, but at some point in life, sleeping on the hard ground and hiking to the outhouse just doesn’t sound as idyllic as it once did.  Consider an alternative in which Markle Barn has comfortable sleeping quarters.  Or, picture the crabapple promenade near the bluebird meadow.  The trees lining this peaceful walkway have suffered in recent years and should be replaced with young, vigorous new starts.  Or, thinking of the youth of Indiana, envision a funded sanctuary director who would organize living-classroom teaching, create programs for wildlife study, and encourage guided field trips, exposing and developing the many fascinating and beautiful features of our 700+ acres.

This unusual year, then, we make an extraordinary appeal.  We ask that you help launch a special fund to support these long-range ideals so that generations of future visitors will be lured and inspired by the wonders of Mary Gray, just as the happily skipping child above.

Whichever you choose, your contribution is deductible to the extent provided by law and helps us to protect the nature of Indiana.
